Obama’s Beliefs Are Opposite Those of Springfield’s Favorite Son
January 2nd, 2011The biggest obstacle to economic recovery is the agenda of the Obama administration.
You may read the economic forecast for the Springfield housing market in two parts, posted on my ‘weekly observations’. Part one regards the economic factors in place today, resulting from the government’s impact upon the private sector, that formed the basis for my conclusions in the forecast in part 2.
As I was facebooking today, a friend posted a link to the ten most impoverished U.S. cities which included the following list:
What do the top ten cities (over 250,000) with the highest poverty rate all have in common?
Detroit, MI (1st on the poverty rate list) hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1961.
Buffalo, NY (2nd) hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1954.
Cincinnati, OH (3rd) hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1984.
Cleveland, OH (4th) hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1989.
Miami, FL (5th) has never had a Republican mayor.
St. Louis, MO (6th) hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1949.
El Paso, TX (7th) has never had a Republican mayor.
Milwaukee, WI (8th) hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1908.
Philadelphia, PA (9th) hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1952.
Newark, NJ (10th) hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1907.
It is the poor who habitually elect Democrats, yet they are still poor.
The post concluded with this timeless advice:
“You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away people’s initiative and independence. You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.” –Abraham Lincoln
What a stark contrast to the Obama ideology. Obama believes you can legislate equal outcomes for ‘the common good’ as with the Obamacare bill. In wealth redistribution, expanding entitlements, and the welfare state. In class warfare with his incessant ‘tax cuts for the rich’ language dividing Americans into classes. Saying; at some point you’ve earned enough money, as he believes the citizens earnings are not sacred personal property, but belongs to the government.
If we continue to follow down the path of this Marxist ideology to Obama’s dream of ‘fundamentally transforming’ America, the greatest Republic in history will have sacrificed individual liberty, personal property rights, and our freedom for the false notions outlined by Lincoln’s statement above.
I still believe in the founding principles of this nation and that the framers had it right, we all have the right to ‘the pursuit of happiness’. What we do with that right in our lifetime is up to us.
What polar opposites are the two presidents that both once served in Springfield. For me, I’ll take the first one, you can have this one. I still believe in individual liberty, personal property rights, and limited federal government. As President Reagan stated, America is man’s, and the world’s last hope for freedom.
Republicans were elected in November to stop the Obama agenda, not to compromise. The American people have spoken.
