Weekly Observation for May 29, 2010 Part 1, To Our Fallen Heroes
May 29th, 2010Today in America there is an ideological divide. On the one side are those who believe in the founding principles of our Declaration of Independence, and constitution which sets forth negative rights. Negative because these are rights the government cannot take away and are protected under the constitution.
Then there are certain unalienable rights bestowed upon man by God. These are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
On the other side is the belief in positive rights. That the wisdom of the founders in the 1700’s is outdated in today’s world. These positive rights are conjured up by those who believe government, consisting of imperfect men, can grant rights. These include the right to health care, to own a home, to have a job, to have a minimum wage, education, vacation, and so forth.
This set of people believe that you can legislate equality through the redistribution of wealth, and that government is the solution to all problems. These people believe in big government.
Those on the other side believe in individual responsibility, and the opportunity for success be equally available for all to pursue. That our liberty is connected directly to property earned through the fruits of labor rejecting the notion that government may seize the property of the producer to redistribute to the non-producer to make life fair. Life isn’t fair. These people believe in limited government.
As President Ronald Reagan said the larger the government the less liberty for the people.
President Obama believes in the redistribution of wealth, to impose so called positive rights, which is what he meant when he said he wanted to fundamentally transform America. This stands in stark contrast to the founders intent.
Therein lies the great divide in the nation today. Those who believe in the founders intent, and those who don’t. Those who believe in liberty and the opportunity for success for all Americans. Then those who believe they have a right to another’s property simply because they were born Americans, and desire to grant those same rights to illegal immigrants, and terrorist enemies. One side cherishes liberty, the other side denies liberty.
For over two centuries brave American men and women have answered the call to duty, with many making the ultimate sacrifice to protect and safeguard our unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness found only in America.
From an anonymous author: For it is the veteran, not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion. It is the veteran, not the reporter who has given us freedom of the press. It is the veteran, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the veteran, not the community organizer, who has given us the freedom to assemble. It is the veteran, not the lawyer who has given us the right to a fair trial. It is the veteran, not the politician who has given us the right to vote.
These represent the negative rights protected under the constitution that generations have fought and died to protect, because they believe in the founders intent.
Those believing in positive rights deny the liberty of their fellow citizens by confiscating their property through legislation, not gallantry on the battlefied. These man made rights are what the big government believers enforce through rule, regulation, and bureaucracy.
The following comes from my speech at The Tea Party Express III rally held in Springfield on April the 5th. This is what I believe our fallen heroes would say this Memorial Day were they here;
I Have a Dream:
· I dream of a leader that travels the world speaking proudly of American exceptionalism and sacrifice.
· Not a leader that calls America arrogant on foreign soil and apologizes for America. We have nothing to apologize for.
· I dream of a leader that stands by our allies.
· Not one who coddles tyrants and dictators.
· I dream of a leader that truly has the backs of our troops.
· Not one who is more interested in granting rights to terrorists than defending the Americans who kept us safe following 9-11.
I have a dream:
· I dream of a leader that embraces capitalism, even with all its flaws, that has provided Americans with the highest standard of living in history.
· Not one that believes in the redistribution of wealth stealing one man’s property to give to another. Or a leader who abandons free market principles to save the free market.
· I dream of a leader that embraces democracy, and personal responsibility.
· Not one who believes in entitlements and funds community organizers that perpetuate voter fraud undermining that very democracy.
· I dream of a leader that believes in limited federal government. That the people are the solution to America’s challenges.
· Not of one who believes that government is the solution.
I have a dream:
· I dream of a leader that honors life. Even the life of the most defenseless, vulnerable, and innocent.
· Not one who views a life as a mistake or a cost.
· I dream of a leader that defends liberty.
· Not one that denies their very people liberty with unconscionable deficit spending, that will certainly lead to onerous taxation, and burdensome regulation.
· I dream of a leader that cherishes the pursuit of happiness. Safe keeping the unlimited opportunities and possibilities for all Americans.
· Not a leader who believes in a socialist utopia that does not and cannot exist. That lowers everyone’s standard of living in an attempt to legislate equality. That punishes success and depresses the human spirit.
I have a dream:
· I dream of a government by the consent of the governed.
· Not a government that ignores the will of the people.
· I have a November dream where every representative and senator that has supported the progressive statist agenda, who have buried our children in debt, and denies us our liberty to be voted out of office by a tsunami of patriots.
· I have a dream of every person in the sound of my voice educating their neighbors, coworkers, church members, family and friends on the greatness of this country and that our freedom and liberty can be lost, and lost from within. This November I have a dream of good people taking a stand.
Ladies and gentlemen Thomas Jefferson said when the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty.
May I humbly add; A free man with no property is wealthier than a rich man living in tyranny.
To the media , start doing your job. The founders trusted you to protect the people not the government or the powerful.
God Bless You All, God Bless America, and God Bless Our Troops Serving around the world. God Bless those who gave all.
